About JCUTE

JCUTE is a collaborative of organizations (from the public and private sectors, civil society and the international community), partnering to propel and sustain technology-based initiatives in schools so as to create a

  • well-trained,
  • flexible and
  • technologically adept workforce i.e. the best employees!

JCUTE was Launched on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at the Hilton Hotel in Kingston by the then Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon P.J. Patterson, JCUTE is a joint initiative of ICT4D Jamaica and the International Education Collaborative Foundation (IECF), a non-profit organization based in the USA.

The ultimate goal of the JCUTE initiative is to ensure that secondary school students graduate with 21st century skill sets. The island’s future economic prosperity is largely dependent on the capacity of the education and training systems to produce graduates that meet the requirements of the global economy. By enriching the education system with sustainable ICT programmes and consolidated ICT resources, Jamaicans will benefit from increased participation in a new Global Economy.

Role of the Public Private Partnership - JCUTE

  • Provide sustainable support for UTE education transformation
  • Coordinate connectivity with other ICT interventions
  • Facilitate strategic level negotiations with Government
  • Ensure policy implementation which reflects workforce needs

What is JCUTE?
JCUTE is a public private partnership established to develop a critically thinking and technology savvy population that is equipeed to contribute to the development of Jamaica in the 21st centry.  JCUTE works at achieving this through the integration of technology in students’ daily learning environment.

Who benefits?

Initially the direct beneficiaries of the initiative are the lecturers and student teachers in teachers’ colleges.  The training, hardware and software which is to be used to develop student’s skills are to be provided to colleges training teachers with a view to developing a new cadre of teachers who will graduate and take a new practical, technology empowered methodology into the classroom.  This should help to develop a passion for learning among the young.
